The New Year is a time for fresh starts and new beginnings. For many of us, it is also a time to develop or reinstate healthy habits that we hope to carry through the next year and many more to come. Here are a couple of tips for having a mindful 2016.

Establish or reintroduce a daily mindfulness meditation practice. There are many ways to incorporate mindfulness into daily life, but none is as valuable as developing a daily meditation practice. You don’t have to commit to sit in meditation for an hour each day, but try to be consistent. Maybe you’re comfortable with 5 or 10 minutes per day, start with this. Over time and as you fall in love with the practice, you can slowly increase the time as much as you’d like, working up to an hour a day.

Practice single-tasking. Another intention for the New Year that will help you to be more mindful is to do one thing at a time. Whether at home eating a meal with family or in a meeting at the office, be present with the people you’re with and actively engage with your surroundings. While it may seem like you are being less productive or efficient by single-tasking, the truth is you will produce better work and make deeper connections.

Give yourself or a loved one the gift of mindfulness meditation this New Year with a Group or Private meditation class.
